If you drink wine, you will eventually drink a Bordeaux. Although "the Bordeaux" doesn't really exist. The Bordelais in the southwest of France is particularly striking because of its diversity. The "world grapes" Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec have their origins here, and numerous other grapes are also permitted. Bordeaux also stands out for its very different terroirs, for example between the Médoc on the left bank of the river and the Libournais on the right bank of the river.

In addition to the diversity of grape varieties and terroirs, Bordeaux is known in wine history above all as the wine region that perfected the cuvée (also: assemblage), i.e. the blending of different grape varieties. Last but not least, not only great red wines come from Bordeaux, but also grandiose white and sweet wines.
