Refosco Mosaic Rose
The deep dark king of darkness
The autochthonous grape variety Refosco immediately catches the eye with its deep colour. The Refosco is an ancient grape variety from Friuli Venezia Giulia and its name, a word created from Re (It.: king) and Fosco (It.: dark, obscure), is absolutely apt. But the wine itself also has depth. 50% of the Mosaic Ros grapes are dried in the passito process after a later harvest.
This wine has already been awarded the best Refosco in the DOC Friuli Aquileia appellation by an Italian gourmet magazine. We wouldn't be surprised if this were repeated. The "Mosaic line", the Cantina Tarlao, which also includes a white and a sparkling wine in addition to the Refosco, is also the premium line of the winery, the name refers to the necessity of every piece of the mosaic for a real top wine.
This Refosco includes an aroma cocktail of dried wild berries, cassis and pepper. The tannins are also very velvety and give this otherwise quite full-bodied wine a light touch.

Cantina Tarlao
Francesco Tarlao's Weingut befindet sich im Herzen der Appellation Friuli Acquileia DOC. Acquileia war neben Rom einer der bedeutensten Städte des antiken Roms, weswegen die Umgebung archäologisch äussert wertvoll ist und die Weinkultur bereits lange zurückreicht. Francesco erzählte uns, dass er des Öfteren beim Umgraben im Rebberg oder beim Pflanzen neuer Rebstöcke auf interessante Reliquien aus längst vergangennen Zeiten trifft.
Weintechnisch verfolgt die Cantina Tarlao einen sehr spannenden Ansatz. Grössenteils wird auf die Kultivierung einheimischer und internationaler Rebsorten gesetzt. Für die Grösse des Weinguts (7 Hektare) werden ausserordentlich viele unterschiedliche Weine abgefüllt.
Die Auflagen der verschiedenen Weine sind daher eher gering und die Vielfalt grandios. Das Weingut Cantina Tarlao trägt zudem das nachhaltige Label SQNPI.
